That's a racket many of them play. They are not allowed to spend contributions or their office funds on personal items etc, but they are allowed to use those funds for hiring cunsultants and staff etc. So they "hire" their family members. In addition, in leu of direct bribes, special intrest groups often "hire" a politicians family members as "lobbyists". It's nothing more than a way of laundering funds..Harry Reid is most likely the current champ at this scam, his sons and son-in-law are all lobbyists for firms that have benefitted from legislation he has sponsored re land transfers etc...
