We need help with our Lab, her name is Allie. She is 9 years old and in great health with exception of an infection she's gotten.
We've spent about $2k on an infection in her face (sinus/upper jaw) below her left eye ... now the current vet that is attending to her says it might be tumorous ... the problem is not going away, 4 surgeries, multiple visits, antibiotics, etc. etc. etc. and that putting her down might have to be considered. I don't like that idea.
It's not a good situation ... she has been wearing a cone since May 6th, has drainage from the lances in her face, infection lump causes pain in her face (enough to make her wince when eating or yawning) ... we have to clean her face from the drainage at least 8-10 times a day.
We just don't know what to do ... and really don't have the money to keep paying for "tests" and surgeries over and over. But she is one of the family & we love her. I am willing to pay, mostly looking for a honest answer to what the problem is and how to fix it without going in 1-2 times a week to check her out.
So, any vets out there? Allie needs your help.
    Thanks,
    The Busby Family

Get out the phone book and get a second opinion. If you wore a cone for a week you'd get another opinion I would hope..

My wife is a Vet. Tech. I can talk to her and see what she says. You said there is a growth, have it taken out and checked for cancer.

That's why I'm asking for help, if not from a vet directly, from other dogs owners here who have good vet's
    Thanks.

We've had the "lump" tissue sent out for biopsy, they found nothing in the tissue, but a lot of clear plasma fluid is being generated below the muscle above the bone, they have had to lance her face and let it drain. It drained for a few days and then healed, swelled back up, lanced again, drained, healed up ... over and over and over again ... went in to flush it out and check for infection, drained, etc. etc. etc.
A visiting vet was in during our normal vet's vacation to remove stiches, recommended an MRI to see if it was a tumor in the skull, freaked out my wife, the normal vet came back and said that that wasn't the case. That the skull x-ray should have shown that. Who knows, ask me about a blown big block chevrolet ... I can help you out, ask me about this, I'm lost.
Now she's still draining with the lump. Rexone has recommended a vet group that are specialists, by referral only ... so we'll see how that goes.
    Thanks for the replies.

I just got off the phone with my wife. Sounds like she agrees with the second vet., get the MRI. She said that a skull X-Ray won't tell you much compared to an MRI, she stated that is what she would do if it was our dog.
