What happened to Rankin's capsule boat that flipped and sunk last year, I saw it at Pfaff's shop the next day and it looked ok. Is it back in the water?
What was the name of the old nostalgic boat that crashed onto the rocks, the one with the allison airplane engine? How is the repair of that boat going?
I will be there with bells on!!!

Was it a big red white and blue wood boat ?
If so it was at the April Parker race.

Maybe we need to go back to the old days when they pitted and launched off the sand...
I just read in a 74 Boat mag that Long beach (as of then) had a crowd of 12,000 and that was their gate count. I remember those days camping outside the gate.
:jawdrop: Was this in Marine Stadium or somewhere else??? I can't imagine 12,000 in Marine Stadium, sounds like quite a party!!!

Good question. I wondered about that. Seems the Ming deal has been called the SCSC "season opener" for a couple of years. But the Bluewater/Thanksgiving deal has been called the APBA season opener for decades??? What is the deal Ross? Is Thanksgiving the first of the season, or the last??.......And is there a difference between the SCSC/APBA region 12 schedule.....??..Ray

This topic is driving me nuts. I wish someone (Ross) would make a final ruling on it. If it is the opener then call it that, if not then call it the finally (sp).
It seems the APBA License is the issue at hand.

The APBA racing season begins on November 1 and ends on October 30, so technically Thanksgiving is the beginning of the points for the next year of racing. However, many of the series that race with SCSC don't start their first Series race of the year until Bakersfield thus the name "Season Opener". Now, it is entirely up to each class/series to decide whether November is their opener (but the race will still be called the "6_ Thanksgiving Regatta") or start their Series points chase in March, some even start later. Also, there is a big time spread between November and March (4 months) so many boats are taken apart and rebuilt for the next racing season and new ones are completed to start their racing life. Remember, don't over think it, it's just a name and we can change it to "Bakersfield Lake Ming March Regatta" if the semantics bother some, I personally don't care.
Now let's go back to the original point, APBA, should really make the racing year end on December 31 and begin on Jan. 1 but because they are a corporation and have their corporate year beginning and ending in November/October it most likely won't change. It would help us on West Coast out as we race virtually year round whereas most of the rest of country don't start racing until the thaw in April or May and end in September or the latest October.
    Ross Wallach, SCSC
