Has anyone been around checkmate boats? I'm looking at a new 20 ft open bow with a 225 outboard. The closest dealer is in Iowa so all I've seen of them is on the Internet, they sure look nice though. Let me know If anyone has been around them.

They are built really well and the gel is very nice. The only problem with them (for me) is they are pretty heavy and not all that fast.

I own a couple... a 17' Predictor and 21' Enchanter. Neither is open bow, but
they are great boats. TD is rite... there are faster hulls around, but for an all-
around boat... speed, comfort, good looks, ski boat, you'll be very happy!

DItto with TOWN and KINGS. I had a 16 in the 80's and although I couldn't afford to rig it like my Hydrostream today, Checkmate is good looking in and out. I used mine in saltwater and it held up fine with the usual maintenance. I think the weight is a fair compromise for a good all around lake boat.
