0.5 lbs of fuel per hour per horsepower...
Hello People,
What is the BSFC for one horse power gal per/m.
Trying to calculate how much fuel a 1500 gas engine consumes
0.5 lbs of fuel per hour per horsepower...
It all depends on how efficient the engine is: total combo carb, intake, compression ,cam and exhaust. A BSFC of .50 ( 1/2 lbs fuel per hour per HP.) 800 hp engine would need(consume) 400 lbs of fuel in one hour at a BSFC of .50 or 66.67 gallons assuming VP C-12 with a specific gravity of .717.
But if the same 800 hp engine has a BSFC of .390 the fuel needed would only be 312 lbs or 52 gallons in one hour with VP C-12.
Assuming a BSFC of .50 is safe any performance engine should be able to achieve that number.
What is the engine ?

Hello People,
Just wanted to let you know that I found the info in detail,
Use a calculator and plan on .5 lbs/hp-hr. (gasoline). Methanol alcohol requires about 1.0 lbs/hp-hr. Use .7 lbs/hp-hr when planning a gasoline system for nitrous assist.
EXAMPLE: You have a 650 hp engine. 650hp x .5 = 325 lbs/hr. (gasoline). Although you need to know how much your fuel weighs, assume for this example that it weighs 6.2 lbs/gal. 325 lbs/hr. รท 6.2 = 52.42 gal/hr. Dividing by 60 (minutes per hour) yields .847 gal/min (GPM).
10 gallons per hour per 100 hp. 150 Gallons per hour. Divide by 60.
10 gallons per hour per 100 hp. 150 Gallons per hour. Divide by 60.
That would be a BSFC of .6 I'm not going to say that would be a two stroke but it certainly wouldn't be much of a performance engine or if it were it would be running awfully rich. Maybe a pain ass stocker.

SleeperI wouldn't want my motor to run there, but for purposes of figuring a fuel pump, I think it's definately safe.
