I have a stock 1980 200 Mercury that has never been rebuilt and I have had no major problems in all the 22 years that I have owned it. Every summer it logs about 100 hours of pulling skiers, cruising and racing with the other boats on the lake. I have noticed in the past few summers that the motor is starting to tire out, it would run good sometimes and not so good others.I had a compression test done about three years ago and I was told that she had lots of life left in her. My question is should I bother rebuilding it or should I just upgrade to the new 225 Pro Max. If I were to upgrade, what if any money would I see if I were try to sell the old 200.

I would upgrade for sure.Sell your motor for a couple of grand. Then buy the 225 promax for $5500 on this web site(outboard page?).Your rebuild will cost you about the same or more.
