    Wow - I'm down to 2 stars.
Would somebody tell the jet boys not to hate the playa. Hate the smoke.

The BB spanker of all times! This little Q-ship runs 8.3's or better in the 1/4 mile! Just an ol' Fish'n Mercury With lot's of HP and maybe a little Go juice! eek!
This is the 3-Time World champion ODBA unlimited class 2000-2001-2002! (stay tuned for 2003) That's pretty sad that an unlimited deal only runs 8.30's. You would have a hard time winning ski flat @ NJBA with that timeslip these days.
Comp flats like Jeff Martins 146 boat are running deep deep 7's.
BTW, my 1974 Hondo was running 8.0's when I hung up my drag racing days.

    Well gee SD013,
If you started like the boats in the ODBA you might just have found yourself in the 9 sec class not the 8 sec second class.

You Te What's the distance from the rope to the starting beam?

I think I was making around 35K a year back then. My racing was pretty low buck. So how much money do you think is tied up in an unlimmited wacker engine?

    SD013,
The distance is 20 to 30 ft. mostly closer to 20 ft. in gear idle not over 1600 RPM.
They use a barge and a guy makes sure the boats are paired up.
Unlimited boats have a minium weight of 1300 lbs with driver and fuel.
So if you make a pass and win you better have enough fuel for the next pass no refueling.
A boat may start out at closer to 1400lbs depending on how big the feild is.
The same boat could run in the 1100lbs range, with drive and fuel but not in the ODBA.
So could your old flatty get spanked by an outboard, most likely YES.
So can big blocks spank an outboard, sure, they just need lots of horse power to do it.

    You Te,
WOW that is a short distance.
Oh I know there is some outboards the could spank that old flat. I don't think any from 1974 would be doing it though. lol
Now that STV in the top pic looks to be running an IHBA or SDBA event as it's racing a jet.
What's that boat's e.t. at an IHBA style start?
