Thread: Bayliner 18', Force 90

I have a '91 Bayliner Capri 17' 10", with '91 Force 90hp. The Force was rebuilt and driven 3 times before grenading and now needs another rebuild. Is it worth trying another rebuild? What about buying a rebuilt motor w/ short (90 day) warranty? What is the most motor I can put on this boat? It is used for skiing. Can anyone in the SE US sell me a good used late model 115-125 motor? What motors are compatible with the controls for a Force 90?

SB: My $.02 is if you are going to keep the boat for any length of time, buy anything but a Force. Force's were notoriously unreliable and generally poorly engineered. I would think that you could put a 115 OMC on the back of your rig without any problems. I am not sure exactly what will need to be changed over, but probably shift cable, throttle cable, for sure, and perhaps tach, and steering cables. Good Luck! http://free.***boat.net/ubb/cool.gif

depending on the model year the bolt pattern will not line up woth omc and force, no other motors use force controls or electronics i would recomend either a yamaha or johnson maybee even a mercury 1997-2001 but definitely not a force. where are you located? email me with your information i may know a perso who will buy the force off of you

These guys must have all bought into the jive on Force Outboards. Sure they are a lesser expensive purchase but not lesser engineered or any less quality than the Merc's or Yamaha's. We race outboards on hydros and use Force blocks and running gear. We find that they perform at least as well, if not better than other manufacturers. We take them to the very limits of their engineered perameters... I have never had one grenade except for when I have mis-setup or went over the line.

i agree with ratso forces suck u want a real motor go to an omc or merc yamahas are dependable but have not nearly the balls a merc or omc hasif you race forces you have problems or you are a low budget race team

I agree with ratso and snapper. Force's are old Chrysler outboards. Poor, poor motors, always have been, always will be. Anything can be reengineered to work but think about the headaches invovled. Buy anything but a Force/Chrslyer. Tommat is probably a MOPAR guy!
