A Lancaster boy, 2, got into a fenced-off pool at his grandfather's home and drowned, while his mother was giving birth to another child, according to a tipster at the scene.
The accident at 1805 Saint James Court was reported about 7:40 p.m. Saturday night.
The boy who died was a fraternal twin set to turn 3 in September, his grandfather said. The mother was at a hospital, giving birth, when the accident happened, he added.
An uncle, Daniel Kilcoyne, said he saw his nephew, Damien, floating in the pool and quickly got him out. Kilcoyne, who is trained in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, said he was unable to revive the toddler.
The pool was fenced-off and locked, but the boy somehow got inside and jumped, or fell into the pool. Family members got the boy out of the pool and tried unsuccessfully to revive him.
An autopsy is pending.
