Ok here is the dumb question of the week. How do I time a 460 ford. This is the first one I have ever worked on. For a chevy I usually set a n/a motor at 34 total and a boosted deal at 32. These numbers vary but it is a good start I have found. Will this hold true for a ford. The motor as I can tell is all stock with points ignition. Oh yeah and how are the cylenders numbered? Is it the same as a bbc, looking at the motor 1 3 5 7 on the right and 2 4 6 8 on the left. Thanks for the help

First off. Looking at the engine from the front cyl 1-4 are on your left ,5-8 on your right (front to rear). 5-8 are on the car's driver side.
Depending on the engine 30-32* is fine .

All of my big Fords like low timing, 32-36. Ive ran it as high as 40 but they dont want to turn the RPM when that high.
