If i were to build a decent 500+ ci chevy motor, what kind of block should i start with? would you guys recommend me buy a new block? or start w/ a good used 454 block? since half of my damn ford motor got stolen, i was thinking of pulling the motor, selling it, and starting fresh w/ something i wanted in the first place...how much would i be expected to spend on a ground-up buildup of a big inch chevy motor? again, here's the link to my other 'stolen' thread...

There were lots of guys that hit me up when I was looking for a 4-bolt 454. Try a search in SPAM, there were quite a few there too.
    Figure $6000 for everything?

From my understanding a 454 is only going to stroke to 496. I've also been told a 502 will make 40 or so more h.p. than a 496 (with the same cam, comp. ect.)

No outside physical difference. The cylinders are thicker allowing one to bore the 502 blocks to 4.530".
If you wanting right at 500 CID it is hard to beat an OEM 454 block. If you want something in the neighborhood north of 500 CID then I would recommend an aftermarket block. With these you can build up to 588 CID in a low deck platform depending on bore and stroke.

You're considering swapping motors because the intake & carbs got ripped off? Isn't that a whole lot of extra hassle than just replacing what was taken?
