America was built on speed...............Hot, Nasty, Bad Ass speed.

Last time I checked the Teague stuff is cheaper than any Merc Blue motor. Most of the time you can get a Teague 800efi with XR drive for the same price as upgrading to a 525 or 600. Unless DCB is jacking up the Teague prices...
BTW Teague offers the same 1yr warranty as Merc.
Of your 2 choices, I'd definitely agree go 525s with the possibility of Whipples later on.

You'll have a much better chance of using the teague warranty. If you can keep the blower belts on.

Thanks to all for opinions.....first of all....the 87 octane issue was not about fuel prices (what a$$ could worry about them...$3.55 or $3.75..who gives a
f$%& at that price-point)!! We have had issues with premium availability on some lakes and octane boost will not do it!!!! Wife agreed to the big-$ boat if we could use 87 octane. Already have the 525s in route....found out that Ilmor can program the 625 and 710s to run on 87-89 octane no problemo.....next boat for sure!!!!
On a practical note; if the 525s can do 118-120 (light layup) and the Ilmors can do 130-140.....is it REALLY worth the dough ($40K-$50K plus upgrade)??? To some, YES, to others who work for the money (no inheritence) and pay cash for everything it is a big-fat NO!!!

No way in hell unless you Whipple them. If they are Ilmore 710s.

The boat looks great! Colors are awesome.
Do you believe it's practical to spend 250k on a boat period? Have you ever ridden in a 29 with 710's or 800's? Have you ever been in a 29 at 100 mph and at 130+ mph? Have you ever dealt with Mercury on a warranty issue? Mercury sucks compared to Ilmor and Teague on warranty issues. 100mph in a 29 is cruising speed. 130+ mph in a 29 is a rush. Why are so many guys building 32's with 1100's? It's because the 32 is cruising at 115-120 and a rush at 140-150+. It's all in what you want. I truly don't believe there's anything practical about these boats. Just my .02.

You don't think a 29DCB will run over 130mph with the ILMORS????
My 28 Daytona has run 133mph with 625's....

I really don't think so but I could be wrong. To give you an idea of where I am coming from ... Powerboat tested an F29 with 710s and top speed was 141. That was with professional drivers and setup specifically for top-end numbers.

You are right...I am backpedaling at 130MPH right now!!! The truth is that I could not get the Wife to approve the cost upgrade......I ADMIT IT..I WANNA GO 140..I DO, I DO, I DO, I DO......... (Need a smiley face with tears....can anyone build me one??)

No way Jose.... All power boat tests show 120 -122 for standard layup 28' Eliminator's and 29' DCB's with Illmore 625's unless you've got a super light - special layup like they did for that one special boat. You must have been running down river, down hill on an outbound flood.... Keep them throttles forward Chris.

As an F-29 owner with 525's my opinion is in red.
The boat looks great! Colors are awesome.
Do you believe it's practical to spend 250k on a boat period? Depends on your pocket size. Have you ever ridden in a 29 with 710's or 800's? No. Have you ever been in a 29 at 100 mph and at 130+ mph? 100mph yes 130mph Don't want to. Have you ever dealt with Mercury on a warranty issue? Yes, and the outcome depends on the shop mechanic and his ability to support you. Mercury sucks compared to Ilmor and Teague on warranty issues. 100mph in a 29 is cruising speed. True 130+ mph in a 29 is a rush. Scarey Why are so many guys building 32's with 1100's? It's because the 32 is cruising at 115-120 and a rush at 140-150+. It's all in what you want. The only thing I've had to do with my motor is fix a small timing issue. Recently they had a problem with the Whipple Blowers that caused several motors to fail, but that's not their fault and they're building brand new motors for those customers. I'm not quite sure what you're referring to as far as the blower belts, but I've never had a problem with mine.
