Thread: The proper way to be a jet boater...

OK, so I learned a few tips yesterday from some seasoned jet boat owners.
The first tip is do not have any cleats in the boat. You've got a steering wheel and diverter handle to tie off to:

Secondly, you can save lots of valuable room by not carrying fenders. Life vests double as fenders and should be on the boat anyway:

Please note the ever so friendly jet boat owners reaction to my attempts to learn something new.

Now if you're going to tie up a few jet boats, make sure to bring plenty of "rope" and don't get it confused with lines that regular boats use to tie off to one another:

Another helpful tip I learned here is to make sure that the headers are cooled off before you attempt to tie off to them or else you could end up melting your "rope."
Lastly, feel free to lend a helping hand. It should take at least 3 people to tie up one boat in this manner, and do it correctly, that is.

It sounds like someone wishes they had a jet boat.
Life jackets are way better fenders then the fender itself.

I've still got one, however, it has cleats hanging inside the gunwales, and does have REAL dock lines and fenders. I've just been doing it wrong all these years.

There are many different styles, but they all bear some type of resemblance to this:

    Thanks for posting that up.
Sorry, but it doesn't look like that would work very well. Heck it looks like that rope could pull right out of there if'n ya gave it a lil tug. I believe I'll stick with the steering wheel, ski hook, bucket shift handle, bow eylette, headers or the like.
