When I bought my boat in 04', an extended warr was not available for the 525. Nothing in the Mercury Racing line had an extended warr available. Not sure if that's still the truth.

When you looking into motors I told you that Phoenix American will cover the 525s for about $2500 each for 5 years . I think it is money well spent if you plan to run big hours. I do

read the coverage real good, I'll never buy it again
they flat don't pay for worn out parts, so most high
hour motors won't be covered. if the cam goes flat
    not covererd
    if it breaks it's covered
    worn out rings, not covered
    wornout bearings not covered
    overheated motors not covered
    low power not covered
    burnnig oil not covered
so you take it in on the extended warantee
the shop tears it down, calls the inspector
he see's no broke parts denies the claim
you tell him it only had 60 lbs of compression
in the best cylinder, he says "yeah I believe you, it's wore out"
    not covered
