What was the name of the policy or treaty that Clinton signed with N.K. to keep them from building the nuclear reactors. The US was giving them barrels of oil to keep (as a bribe) to stop there nuclear program. I heard about it on a 60 min special a couple months ago and forgot the name of it. I want to say it was called the Sunshine Treaty. :idea:

I can't recall the name but I believe it was setup by Jimmy Carter's unauthorized visit to NK and agreement in faith, both of which pissed Bill off and railroaded him into enacting.

The Agreed framwork of 1994 never got a treaty name because it was never ratified as a treaty.

No prob. You were on the right track. The Sunshine Policy is South Korea "love thy neighbor" policy..... even if the neighbor is a psychotic a-hole.

The below is what I was remembering:
It seems that almost wherever he goes and whatever positions he pushes, Jimmy Carter leaves a wake of devastation and disaster.
Carter, we should note, has been cozying up to North Korea for years. He helped the U.S. and the communist country come to agreement during the Clinton years to defuse a tense situation over North Korea’s nuclear weapons program.
Under the wacko deal Carter arranged, the U.S. would stop complaining about Korea's nuclear weapons program as long as the U.S. gave aid to North Korea and helped the communists build more modern nuclear reactors.
The U.S. was well on the path to doing this when the new Bush administration sounded the alarm and immediately stopped the cockamamy plan dead in its tracks.
North Korea was not cooperating with the U.S. to stop its weapons program, but we should continue helping them to build nuclear reactors. Make sense?

It is funny you guys bring this up. I just got his book "Beyond the White House". I am by no means a fan of his, but I have been doing alot of business travel lately and saw the book. Idealogically, I am against everything the man stands for, but figured what better way to get into his head and try to understand why he is so ass backwards then to read his book. Just started......Should be a wild read to say the least. By the way, you guys forgot about Iran, we are at fault there as well.

I wouldn't say Clinton was against having Carter get N.K. out of the headlines. We paid cash to N.K. to pretend they weren't working on nuclear weapons.
