Spend a coupla' grand on headers. Pull the heads off and have them lightly ported and the valve size increased, better valvesprings. Reprogram the ECM via Whipple. There are several cam upgrades, too. Comp and Crane both make several grinds for 8.1s. All of these would bring you up to a 525 and be less than a supercharger and probably still less than a Raylar kit. It's still a big-block Chevy and will respond to all of the same power upgrades that others do. However, the pistons are weaker than earlier big-blocks and they don't take well to alternate aspiration.
