Just saw a report this morning about the current economic mess and I will try and quote the facts the best I can:
Pres. Bush warned congress to take action 17 times about oversight of the bank and mortgage companies starting back in 2001.
Sen. McCain took the lead on some oversight legislation and the Dem congress would not allow it to come to the floor for a vote which included Obama and Biden.
Sen. McCain warned congress starting in 2004 of the now financia metdown.
In an independant study by a promonent govt waste watch dog group, McCain had a 88% fiscal responsibility rating, one of the highest ratings in all of congress.......Obama the second lowest at 18% and his VP pick 0%.
But I know.....It's all Bush's fault......and McCain will be a third Bush term.....yes but with forceful in your face leadership to fight all this BS!

Unfortunately too many of the Republicans fell into the trap of "PORK" that the Dem's where neck deep in and would not support overhall of the system. Not enough votes support...........Do you blame any of them.....until we the people speak up most are going to go with the flow......McCain asked for no earmarks, was not buddy buddy with the lobbyists and has a track record from day one trying to do what's right for the American people and Palin has done the same for her constituents.......

it was 1999 and the Congress in its infinite wisdom did away with quite a bit of legislation dating to the early 30's that kept insurance companies from acting like banks and vice versa.
However, you may have noticed that there's alot of yelling about subprime this and subprime that...well there actually is a law that requires banks to loan money to people that they are reasonably certain will not repay.
Additionally, fannie, freddie were formed to make lower than market rate loans to people that have marginal payment records....with the implied guarantee of federal "bail out".
So, here we are. Now, what bothers me more than the preceding is that the guys that may actually have a plan to make good all this socialism are on bended knee before the very same legislators that started the pile of hot mess in the first place.
It really isn't the fault of both sides of the isle.
