    I just changed the rack and pinon on my boat this season. Steering with one finger is not a problem when the diverter is in the middle. If I have it all the way up or down due to compression in the bowl it is really hard to turn. A new steering cable is not going to make the difference it is just the way it is.

    i notice mine is a little harder to steer when in the down pos. also but frees up in the upper notches.rack and pinion is new as is the cable.

    i hope i didn't just waste a $150.00 on new steering i'll find out this weekend....
