Well Hoss, I couldn't tell you "who" appoints them, but I can tell you that being a moderator has done me no favors since I became one, all it's done is cause me grief.
Good luck to the next guy that fills that position becuase I sure as shit don't want it.

Miller I TOTALLY DISAGREE that "it worked." All it did was piss people off! It took along time for ALL the other moderators to smooth out a situation that FroggyStyle created on his own with his "This is what were doin and **** you if you don't like it" attitude.
Millitant attitudes don't work for shit on the internet becuase there's no real means of enforcement. Appealing to everyones best interest works alot better.

Ya know Hoss...the funny thing is...most people here don't realize what a moderator does- nothing.
Ya see, a moderator doesn't set policy. They are just another set of eyes for the board gods. Since Craig can't be on here 24/7, he gives some editing power to a few people...that way, the board can run smoothly...without the complaints to LFP, which almost shut it down. We can make suggestions on the site, but so can anyone.
It's funny how people always seem to want to blame "the man for keepin' them down"...and moderators are an easy target. Worth a tee shirt? Yeah right.
As for me, I'm the same idiot I was a couple years ago, when I first found this place. I just have a different title under my boat, and a couple new buttons...
