The boards have been pretty lame lately so i took some digital pics of my old hot boat mags for your enjoyment. Now i know that these are all v-drives but keep in mind what time period we are talking about here.. well be before jets were put into boats. Be patient, enjoy the nostalgia and eventually we'll get to the jet boats.
it was the summer of 1965 and drag boat racing was growing in so.cal
Hot Boat magazine emerged to profile high performance boating.
The first issue of the the then quarterly magazine cost .75 cents and featured a fuel injected, hemi-powered flattie named Ka Ron on the cover.

Cool stuff cyclone. Keep 'em comming.
History lesson # 2:
Jets were used in boats as early as the 30s and 40s, they just didn't make any kind of an impact until 1965 when they were stuck in a few flats, a Stevens and a Carlson. Both were running berks. Schuster and Weiman, in their little Tahiti soon followed.
Cyclone, is it the HB Boards getting lame...or the HB Mag????
Personally I think the "tech areas" of this Forum have been on track...and from the emails and PM's I receive others will agree.
PS. thanks for the pics.
Great post Mike!
Hey, if I remember right the hydro in the bottom right of your first pic also was a twin v drive twin prop deal.
And people think that was something new just a few years ago.
Keep it up and if you want to use a scanner let me know.
That twin engine boat was Buzz Coats boat. Not long ago I saw a bunch of really old marine speed equipment on e bay. I contacted the seller and he was cleaning out Buzz's wife's garage. I guess he passed away sometime ago. That's him in the white tee shirt I think.
Mike those are some great pics and we want more maybe evena bowling pic or two.
Great stuff, keep 'em comin' !!!!
