Beverly found these things at Wal-Mart the other day,
She's been using them to start a fire in the fireplace in the mornings after I'm gone to work. ( we have electric heat but she likes to save the money, plus the fireplace gets the living room a lot warmer)
I was kind of concerned if the things were really safe to use inside, you know, chimney fires and such, what the hell makes this little brick that looks like it's made out of sawdust burn to beat hell like it does?
I mean, this little sucker will start really wet wood burning.
The packaging says it's for indoor use, but has pretty scetchy manufacturer info.
I used one myself this evening, Beverly has been shopping with my Mom all day.
I never smelled anything that concerned me while I was getting the fire built, but when I walked back in the back rooms of the house I caught a faint whiff of something that smelled like kerosene.
Has anyone else used this product?
    Should I be concerned?
Surely Wal Mart would'nt sell an unsafe product?

Kerosene is pretty much what it is. Wood chips and fibers soaked in kerosene or a similar fluid, compressed like hell to form the log and packaged for your use. Fire logs like DuraFlame and Pine Mountain are the same concept. I remember going shopping, picking up a bottle of wine, flowers and a Duraflame. It was a "special" night.

    Well Wet,
I hope you didn't go to all that trouble and not get lucky.
Didn't get the fire warm, drink the wine, smell the flowers and go to sleep did you?
You guys have got me thinking of building a fire. I use charcoal starter. I could build one if Tim would bring me some wood.
Everybody have a great and MERRY CHRISTMAS.
HOW ABOUT THIS (WHO HAS THE PRETTIEST CHRISTMAS TREE?)
