Not necessarily true. If the web e-tailer is a authorized dealer...then shipping is the only thing you have to contend with on the warranty (the trick is making sure they are an authorized dealer).
Most stereo shops will tell you that because they want the sale, and can't compete with low-margin e-tailers.
Some manufacturers support their dealer network (brick and mortar) retailers to the point of pulling the dealer agreement if they are caught selling on the web...but those are the exception these days...not the norm.
    Ebay is a different story.
    PS- Who's Roz?
Hold on now - MOST sellers of electronic gear on the Web are not authorized resellers. They don't come out and tell you but trust me on this, MOST (I didn't say all) are not authorized by the manufacturers to sell their gear. Lots and lots of places on the Web sell gear, most are not offering warranties and all I was saying is you should check and then double-check to make sure the place you're gonna buy from offers (or doesn't if you don't care) a factory-supported warranty. If you're unsure the best bet is to contact the manufacturer directly and ask THEM if the company is authorized to sell and offers warranties on their products.
There's more to quality than price. Good luck!

Not to rain on your parade but you spent 2600. That isn`t a deal. 500 for 3500 now thats a deal.
If the stuff is warm then it probably sat in the sun.

I have bought lots o stuff from e-tailers (off the web)...and yes, I've had warranty claims with no problem.
JL Audio and Rockford Fosgate (MB Quart) are two that come to mind that (in the past) didn't support e-tailers. There's probably a handful outside of that....but they are the exception...not the rule anymore.
    For example, ever notice how Best Buy sells it's stuff on bestbuy.com? From thier site;
"You can purchase with confidence because any warranty on a manufacturer's product will apply when purchased through BestBuy.com. To receive a copy of the manufacturer's warranty details prior to purchase, free of charge, write to:
    Attn: Warranty Request
    Customer Care, BestBuy.com
    P.O. Box 949
    Minneapolis, MN 55440
    1-888-BEST BUY (237-8289)"
Take a look at the Bestbuy.com manufacturer's list (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1043363607945). Not much missing from there.
Or how about Crutchfield? This (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-MyRPZB3...uthorized.html) is their policy (seems straight forward to me)...
I don't think e-tailers can falsely claim being an authorized dealer without the wrath of the lawyers from the manufacturer coming down. Also, if you hang around the car audio forums enough, you learn who is on the up n up...those guys are even more brutal than we are.
Roz had a list going at one time.
Most small shops can negotiate margin and install. If you buy your gear from somewhere else, then you take away alot of thier potential profit. Also, if something goes bad...the finger-pointing begins.
As for service and "you get what you pay for"...I do it myself, so I know who to beat on for a bad install. Gear is gear...if you wanna pay more...that's your perogative (Bobby Brown).

That's cool - you're mentioning BestBuy and Crutchfield. If you think those companies offer "killer deals" then I've got a bridge for you.
There are HUNDREDS of companies selling electronic products on the Web. Most of them are not authorized by the manufacturers and do not offer factory warranties. Keep in mind most of these lesser-known companies have text on their site indicating that they are authorized resellers BUT you have to know which manufacturers they're talking about!
Look, buy where you want but when you're spending big bucks especially on home A/V products like TVs, receivers, LD players, speakers, HiDef, etc., etc., I'm guessing you do want warranties on what you're buying. The choice is yours and buyer beware.

I wont go anywhere else but Roz even if its cheaper somewhere else! He is more informative and takes time to investigate the best product for your needs. I just put the new Pionier Avic-N1 on order with him thursday to replace the kenwood 911 that was stolen out of my wife excursion
    He is the man!

My point was that almost all audio gear can be had from authorized online e-tailers for cheaper than the local shops. Like I said earlier, the key is making sure they are an authorized dealer.

I thought we were talking about boat audio? What kind of equipment is in your boat? Where did you get it? Did you install it yourself?
