I have a friend with the same boat. 350 mag for power. I have yet to GPS it, but I bet it struggles for 60mph. I have a hard time with 70mph on a 310hp 454.
Going to look at a 95 22 foot Scarab this weekend have a Sanger flat, looking for different kicks. The boat is stock 454 stock everbody, claims 70 mph supposed to be in great shape with tandom trailer. The guy wants 19,500 said it has 350 hours on it. Can I get more mph for a meager investmemt,I KNOW SPEED costs. Good buy bad buy...
Ken in Mich..What is this thing worth in the west?

A few years back I almost bought that same type of boat, guy claimed 70mph as well(@4500ft.altitude).Luckily a friend of mine who knew a whole bunch more than me about boats came along...
He checked the prop size, the guy was spinning a 18pitch 3 blade.Figure if he turned it 10,000 rpm's she might see 70.
Long story short later that summer I saw that boat at the lake with a new owner.
I asked him how she ran...He said between 56-58mph
(@4500ft.)on the speedo. So figure low 60's at sea level.
I have heard that they kinda have a propensity to chine walk at WOT,but I don't know for sure...
Are we talking a 454 mag or a standard 454? There's a lot of difference.
My 26' Scarab with 502 mag will see mid 60's. It weighs over 5k loaded down.

That boat will not put up those numbers. Why? A friend of mine has a 22' Scarab, 1998 with a Procharged 454 that runs 72 mph with a 27P Mach propeller.
He is selling it actually. Its all white with a black scarab on the deck.
We still haven't established if either boat is running a 454 mag or a standard 454. We're talking 70hp difference here guys.

A side note to this is that my other friend has '97 23'Scarab SCS like in the movie Faceoff. This boat is the real deal. I dont know what it is layed up with, but it is light yet strong. Have not GPSed Havasu yet but a safe guess is 75-76mph with a stock 502mpi. Will run 69mph GPS on Powell.
If you see a SCS for sale buy it.

#183 My buddy with the procharger is running a regular 454, not a MAG.
If the Scarab in the original post is running the same motor it won't see 70 mph. If it is running the 454 mag it will be in the upper 60s for sure.
