    I'm looking at a '78 Sleekcraft Arisocrat 21' shallow vee. with a
454/ setback berkleypump with place diverter.
What, if anything, can you tell me about this boat?
I believe the pump is stock.
What kind of performance should it have if the pump and motor are in decent shape?
We're gonna put it in the water this weekend to see how it runs.
    any information would be appreciated.

I had one of those several years ago.
I had the tunnel hull model.

The one I had was setup for an insert pump, E type.
Those pumps are quite limited in performance. You stated that the boat you're looking at had a setback pump. An insert pump looks like a setback but the intake is molded into the hull.
Look under the dash at where the bulkheads connect to the hull.
When I got the boat the bulkheads were all loose and it required many hours of fiberglass work to glass it back together.

Hi, I have owned the same ('76 Aristocrat) boat for many years....
The lack of interior space is offset by the great performance and handling. Mine doesn't like rough water, though after I put the 'diverter on , it helped. My 455 and setback pump (Berkley JE ) did about 60 mph.......it is a heavy, well built boat. Do you have the 20.5 footer? I am swapping to a 454 this year, hoping for a bit more speed. Pics?

I installed a Dominator pump and was able to get it to go 11.80 at 92 mph at the drags.
It was a good all around boat that could carry 4 adults.

This will be my first jet, therefore I don't know much about the pumps.
What are the good berk pumps and what should I stay away from?
Here's some pics of the boat I'm looking at.
they're a little dark, due to being taken inside the guy's garage,
    but pretty clear otherwise.

Tim, that is a good looking boat, I also had the tunnel model with a 150 Merc. and a friend had one with a 200 merc. They are nice handling boats but ride rough in chop. That is a 12JF pump. The one good thing about those pumps is the ability to clean the pump out in deep water.

OLD GUY has a tunnel like it. I've seen it up close and I think the lines are sweet. His has the original engine cover and it blends with the lines of the boat OH SO SWEET! Any chance you can get the cover or is it gone?:frown:
    Good Luck!
    Peace Man!

The cover is included, and I agree, it looks pretty cool.
Everybody tells me I can't run it with the eng cover though due to the fact that it has water injected thru- transom headers.
I've been told that it could be a fire hazard.
