Yep, 3/4-1 turn after contact. Spread a little oil on the seal.

Doin' the once a year oil change & filter.
with the Bahner full length stringers, & aluminum motor rails the oil filter is to say the least hard to get loose & out. so every year I make a Mental note to myself " Damn, don't use the filter wrench to tighten next year, just hand tight"
so my question is, "is hand tight, tight enough ?"

I agree! Only use a wrench to take it off when Its too hard ( be sure to oil the seel.
I put it on just like the instructions say.
Still takes a wrench to get it off and it is a pain in the axx. If i could get my dick skinners on it proper, i could get it off, but it is buried. Only way is oil wrench just right. then you only get 1/2" of movement at the end of the wrench.
Im not sure why they tell you not to overtighten it. Got two scenerios
1. If you overtighten it you will never get it off
2. We build them so cheezy they might fail even more prematurely or just no work at all.
Havent had many leak, and then it was not catastrophic.

Use a K&N filter. They have a hex right on the end of the filter to help you out. works great.
Hey rexone,
thats sounds like a neat deal, since I have to Tighten everything Good or I can't sleep at Night.
Hand tight is fine so long as you lube the seal so it doesn't grab and essentially give you a false torque reading
Haven't had one fall off yet
Never had a hand tight leak. But oil changes are a bit expensive these days...

10qt. Pan I got one of those, & my motor is a Mild 454.
Better safe than sorry. (but I probably don't need it)
are you using $$$ synthetic racin' oil ?
I used to have problems getting my oil filter of too . I got tired of fighting it all the time so I put a remote oil filter kit and mounted it up where I can reach it. It works for me .

when in doubt GAS IT!
