I'm running a BDS 8:71 with a Superchiller on my Schiada. The old boost gauge was showing 10 lbs of boost at 4,000 rpm. I put my new (and much better gauge on last night) and went to the lake today. At 4,500 rpm it was showing 6 lbs of boost. The blower is being driven straight up, that is no under or over drive. Does this sound right? Should it be making more boost than that? Should I be thinking about having the blower restripped?
Cubic inch, compression ratio, cams, etc all make a difference to what the boost is. just put some overdrive in the blower. You don't want a tight blower on a gas lake deal anyway. Smaller pulley on top. If 8mm drive, 1 tooth difference is 2%.
Is this thing now faster than the jet boat (I hope) with the new gears and V drive?
Nope, but we're getting there. It's running in the 70's now. The jet boat was running in the 80's last time it was out. Every trip gets a little bit better. It's still only spinning up to 4,500 rpms and that's with a 33 gear in it rather than the 39 that was in it before. My boss and I were talking the other night (he's a super motorhead) and we were discussing the lack of top end this thing seems to be pulling. He said there was no such thing as too tall of a gear, it's just a matter of being underpowered.
As far as pulley's go, is the 8mm the big ribbed one or is that the little serpentine style? I'm thinking I need a smaller pulley up top and some more boost and the rpm issue should go away.
What size pulleys are on there?
Can you post a pic of the drive belt setup?
