Thread: OMC Audible Alarm

1987 Evinrude V8: Started to get the boat ready for summer today & IÂ’m having a problem with the audible alarm. It runs constantly when the ignition is turned on. I checked the tan wire for any ground & thereÂ’s none. The alarm turns off when the ground on the alarm is disconnected. When the ground is disconnected & I ground the tan wire, the alarm sounds - so that part seems correct. Any suggestions? Is there possibly a problem with the ignition? I havenÂ’t tried to start the boat yet, as itÂ’s still winterized. Thanks for the help.

The constant tone used to be the overheat alarm but that was in the pre-VRO days so I'm more than a little stale. I'm sure someone who knows will chime in with some real knowledge.
I'd definitely make sure your VRO is working.

Thanks for the reply. The VRO's are disconnected on mine, running premix. My understanding is the tan wire connects to all the sensors (overheating & oil). But that circuit is open, not grounded & I still get the noise. Any other ideas? ~ Thanks again.

Hi, I have a 1985 V8 and I just looked at a wiring diagram for it and the tan starts out at the remote control box and hooks to a low oil switch and travels to a vacum switch and ends up at a temperature switch.
I will try to scan this so you can see, hell,I will take some pictures.........( . )( . ).........

Thanks for the help. Could you post a clearer pic of the top section (with the control box)? I can make out the rest. It doesn't look like you have a ground wire coming off the warning horn, but the rest seems to look the same. Does your horn make a short beep when you turn the key on, or, does it only sound when there's trouble?
