Quick question for the carrera guru's - When did they change from the 205 Elite to the 202 XR and what is the difference if there are any? Anyone have a preference between the two? Thanks in advance for any and all help.
rsr, I just bought a 2001 202xr, I personally like the looks of the cab forward design, the 202 is cab forward the 205 isn't, the 202 comes with the back to back (can't think of the word for it) driver passenger seats the 205 doesn't. I think that is about it in difference, at least that is what I could tell in my ventures.

Both boats use the same bottom. The only difference is the deck. The 205 is a little faster due to less weight toward the bow and a little lower freeboard
Thanks for the info so far. Has the 202 XR been around for a while? How much difference is the freeboard between the 205 and the 202? Anybody able to compare the ride performance of the 202 vs. say a shockwave skier? Thanks in advance again.
Not much difference in freeboard on a 205 versus a 202. It's apples and oranges between a 202 and a Shockwave, remember any other 21 footer will have a lot more room in the open bow than the Carrera's do. I have six friends with the 205's. They all like them and they get on plane well/fairly quick with a 454/jet. The earliest 202 I've seen is a 91, earliest 205 I've seen is an 87. A stock 454/clean slightly modified pump should put a 205 in the mid to upper 50's for speed.

Thanks for the info it's been a great help. Anyone have any idea what year the power hatch became popular and what year the full hatch replaced the old school doghouse? Thanks
Since I've been looking for a different boat, I've seen 3 carreras with the doghouse and 3 with the full bench seat. The doghouse years were 94, 94, and 92. The full bench years were 96, 92, and 88. I hope this helps.

My buddies 89 202XR had the bench and a lot of pink...
I think it depended on what the original purchaser wanted.
Thanks for the info so far guys, it's been alot of help. Hoping to upgrade this winter, get rid of the 18 footer and get the 21 foot carrera. Leaning more towards the 202xr, I definitely like the cab forward design better than the 205. Any other opinions or input on the 202xr or carrera's in general would be appreciated. I've heard some people being kind of negative on the "new" carrera ownership. Just curious what people's thoughts were and when the change occured (what year). Has anyone noticed a difference in the product since the the ownership change? Thanks for any info.
