Well I did some tear down today. pics are coming
I gutted out the Daytona. everything is removed from the hull. interior, fuel tanks, pump, everything.
I'm moving the jet intake back 3.25". after removing
the intake from the hull I decided to cut thru the bottom
of the transom mainly because, when whoever originally
set the intake when they ground down the rounded keel
to make room for the ride plate. they ground into the wood
and didn't seal it back. can you say rotten wood
Question is when setting my intake do I use the keel
as the guide? I noticed the outside sponsons are a different
    angle than the keel.
I know on a V lay the straight edge along the keel.

I did my setback a few years ago...I did (not) bust all the way through the back but left 3/4" in the bottom to insure Hull integrity.
    My tips to you...
1)Take all your measurements (centerline etc)from the underside!
2)Trust nothing on the inside of the boat!
3)Plan several steps ahead at all times!
Below is the aluminum plate I used to bridge the hole infront of the Intake.

Below a straight edge was mounted to the intake so I could measure and determine that the Intake was in fact true with the bottom (underside) and had zero left/right tilt! The Boat was hanging off the Trailer a few feet to allow measuring the Tunnels.

Below the Intake is set in and triple checked with all prior measurements!

Below the underside of the Intake is showing the aluminum bridge plate...also can be seen are the Hull/Intake centerline marks in tape. I had a string line going down the center of the Hull when setting the Intake. The tight stringline let me center the Intake and also made sure the Intake was (not) lower then the Keel!

Below is showing the section of Hull/fiberglass I cut out for the setback...I used a grinder to clean all gel-coat off and used it with Epoxy as a filler for the underside.

Below...all the work was worth it!
