Been reading this and am a little surprised at the insensitivity shown this girl, although I do not totally disagree with it.
My daughter (25) is moving out tomorrow from her so called boyfriends house.
This guy is a real piece of work. Total oxygen thief. He has not actually hit her to my knowledge because I told him the day I met him 4 years ago that if he ever struck her, for any reason, I own a 45 and a shovel and doubt he would be missed.
He drained her financially, screams like a bitch, and threatens her with all manner of hardship. For the past year I get a call about once a week from her crying and blubbering about how he said this or that.
Last week I went off on her. I told her "Why the hell are you calling Me? I could give a fock about what he says or does!" I got really pissed at her and told her at this point your asking for it.
It was like a light came on in her head. She just didn't realize that when he was screaming and threatening He looked utterly childish. It was like she forgot that she could leave. He won't hit her because I would kill him.(at least he believes so) I gave her some cash to get her own place and told her that if I hear one word about him or if she hooks up with him again I will disown her.
Point is, if you coddle and analyze it all to death, it seems to just confuse the issue. If you just remember that guys like this are really just assholes and "mamma's boys", and are basically pathetic, it is not hard to get out.
Money, shelter, food, kids, all that can be managed if it comes right down to it. My daughter had a thousand reasons why it was too hard to leave, but all it took was an ass chewing from me (and a deposit on an apartment) and it became do-able.
