Call Snap-on and ask them who their guy is in your area. They'll put you in touch with him and he should have one on the truck.
My dad recalled his torque wrench a few months ago after YEARS of unfettered use. I forgot I returned it.
I am old enough I guess I need my own shiz. haha.
Well work is a little slow this week, for a change, maybe good maybe bad.
I rolled out the ol' iron Mopar to reassemble it. Layed the crank in, rough checked endplay, .003 on the dot,
and.....
NO DAM TORQUE WRENCH. So now I am stuck.
Aside from the "I am sure by now" Chinese junk available from Craftsman/Sears, where can I get a top notch foot/lb deal.
TODAY?

Are Snap On torque wrenches worth a shit nowadays? I went on a truck last month and couldn't believe my eyes.

I would think so. I did buy mine about 10 years ago from them though so I don't know what they are like today. I did have it recalibrated a couple years ago and it was perfect. And I used it a lot when I was building big Diesel truck motors.
Sweet deal. I met the guy workin' the corner on Mills.
Got a TQFR250E.
300 OTD.

your local pawn shop may have a nice older snap on for a decent price. you can allways have it recalibrated if untrustworthy. if you need to borrow one right away and dont mind a drive, let me know.

Good idea about a pawn shop, didn't even think about that. A Torque wrench is a tool that you could do without sometimes if you needed too.
I appreciate the offer.
It was about time I bellied up for one.

You could always get out the Fish Scale, a Breakover bar, and a section of Bailing Wire, in a pinch.
Oh, calculator or sharp pencil required too.
I had gotten this model not too long ago. Snapon ATECH2FR100.

It does torque angle as well as regular torque, it changes scales from Nm to ftlbs at the touch of a button, has memory for when you have to torque different size bolts in sequence. Its pretty neat, as you approach your target torque or torque angle the wrench will beep and vibrate (vibrate comes in handy for a noisy shop) so that you can watch closely and hit the target torque on the money. I'm not sure on how it stays in calibration yet, haven't used it too many times, but seems to be accurate when tested against my backup Tq wrench. The Snappy Tq wrenches I've had in the past are pretty good and haven't let me down, they just don't do well after sitting in flood waters for two weeks. Thats ok though, It gave me a chance to upgrade.

OUCH! Yea, just how much Can ya ask, even from a snap-on.
Snap-on Tq wrenches are all Learjet buys, and likely all the aircraft mfrs buy. They are checked by Calibration lab annually, and if ever dropped, and, if they had trouble keeping them in cal, they'd find a different vender. There's got to be 300 or 400 total at my plant, fron screwdriver types thru BIGGIES, inch ounces thru lotta foot-pounds, beam/dial and micrometer type both. Have not seen digitals yet.
